Cantara (Temari 95)
This is a complex multi-face division that results in an elaborate series of hexagons and pentagons being created with marking threads. Above these I embroidered alternating layers of rich teal and bright orange using the kousa kagari technique, resulting in a mesmerizing pattern. This temari is an all-over design - the surface of the ball (mari) is completely covered by embroidery.
Size: approx. 4.65" diameter
Materials: Rice husks, fiberfill, yarn, sewing thread, embroidery thread, rattle
Named after the song “Cantara” by Dead Can Dance.
